[Soft Spot] : Botanical Illustration

In the before time of photography, human relies on entirely on their own and writing tool to document knowledge about plants. Drawing and writing used to be an essential skill in medicine. These drawing used to be included in pharmacopeia ( literally,”drug-making) which is a book containing directions for the identification of compound medicines.

I am one of those people who is always in awe of botanical illustration. There is warm intimacy about synchronised hand drawing, eye sight and focused mind that is shown in these pictures. While it used to have a  more functional use, botanical illustration is the kind of art I would like to have in my (future) kitchen. Should I have the extra money, I would even commission an artist to do a set for me.  😉
