Music History Wednesday : Francis Poulenc’s concerto for two pianos in D minor.

Still within context of Gamelan in the Blood, I post this piece from Francis Poulenc. In 1931 the first Balinese gamelan ensemble ever was performed in Europe at Exposition Coloniale Internationale. When you listen to this piece, you won’t miss the Balinese gamelan in the piece, it is so pleasant to hear.

Francis Poulenc (1899 – 1963) was described  by his fellow and critic as “deeply devout and uncontrollably sensual”,”half monk and half naughty boy”. For those who likes French animation, Francis Poulec produces a major concert work for Babar le petit elephant.
